I et brev til Raftostiftelsen forteller Thich Quang Do at han har bedt president Vo Van Ai i Den vietnamesiske komité for
menneskerettigheter om å reise til Norge for å motta prisen i hans sted. Thich Quang Do sitter nå fortsatt i husarrest i Saigon
som følge av hans kamp for demokrati og menneskerettigheter i Vietnam gjennom 30 år.
Tidligere generalsekretær for Den mennonittiske kirken i Vietnam, pastor Nguyen Hong Quang, er satt fri etter et drøyt år
i fengsel.
The conviction of Father Ly for merely exercising his fundamental human rights is outrageous and appalling, but it also is
regrettably predictable. Vietnam claims that they have put an end to human rights abuses, but now the whole world can see
that their reforms were just for show. Vietnam’s so-called reforms are nothing more than smoke and mirrors.

Bevæpnede menn gikk til aksjon mot katolikker i Hanoi natt til mandag den 22. september. Rundt hundre menn raidet bønnevigilien
som daglig holdes av Thai Has troende. Rundt 500 polititjenestemenn var til stede men grep ikke inn. Mobben raserte et kapell,
helte motorolje over en statue av Jonfru Maria og truet katolikkene som var i bønn.
(New York, June 14, 2006) Vietnamese authorities have detained, interrogated, and even tortured Montagnard refugees and asylum
seekers who have returned to Vietnam from U.N. High Commission for Refugee (UNHCR) camps in Cambodia, Human Rights Watch said
in a report released today. The government is violating an agreement with UNHCR, which is supposed to monitor returning refugees
and ensure they are safe.

i Vietnam og som symbol for landets
voksende demokratibevegelse.
